The producer of cars inaugurated Tuesday the largest installation of photovoltaic panels in the Brussels Region. This energy production represents the consumption of 1,000 homes. Minister Evelyne Huytebroeck sees evidence of “efficiency” green certificates. The PV has a bright future in Brussels. Audi Forest just proved yesterday inaugurating the largest installation in the Brussels Region.
With 30,000 m² (equivalent to six football fields), it will allow the carmaker to reduce CO2 emissions by 14,230 tons per year and produce more than 3,000 MWh of electricity per year.
One fifth of photovoltaic capacity in Brussels
Other companies such as Cora Anderlecht, or the Port of Brussels, had also used a large portion of their available space to install solar panels. In late March, the water treatment station Aquiris inaugurated a plant with a production capacity of 3.2 MW. By using roofs, Audi, which has invested about 5 to 6 million €, will lead the top in terms of capacity (3.6 MW). By itself, it represents about one fifth of the total capacity of PV in the capital (18MW).
“We are pursuing a goal of a CO2 neutral production. That is why we only use the hydraulic regenerative energy from the 1 April 2012. The photovoltaic system therefore provides a building block of our environmental strategy, “says Gerhard Schneider, spokesman for the direction of Audi Brussels.
A question of image
With this new facility, Audi also ensures Forest for his image. All this and many other projects such as the sophisticated ventilation system in the paint shop are part of our overall policy for the preservation and protection of the environment. Which also includes the project of a cogeneration plant in spring 2014.
For photovoltaic project, Audi has partnered with two companies: Eneco Belgium and Eoluz.
